Training Diary

I had a good gym session yesterday. This time lower body workout - squats, lunges, burpees!! Core strength session today. Hope to see some of you at the Darlington Half Marathon on Sunday. Its 7.30am start, Pine Terrace Darlington. Be there or be triangular!

Turning 44yo tomorrow. Nice dinner tonight will be the extent of celebrations. I met up with a guy with a TBE jersey on my cycle into and from work yesterday. I’m looking forward to Cyclosportif. This is a West Australian cycling group with over 1000 people registered. We cycle in teams and its recreational in focus (although we do try to eke out our best effort in this team formation).

This week, it has puzzled me how older football players can pummell younger ones in a match and not get reported. Seems like a lot of Brownlow medal punters were the main focus.

Dee gave her running legs an 18km hitout this morning with no obvious ill effects so this is an encouraging sign for her Busso HIM team on 3 May. We have lunch at Hong Kong BBQ this Friday with workmates so this will be a good chance to debrief our HIM training.

Declan is a friend who has decided to make this Busso HIM his first. He is on a professional program written up by Andrew Budge and is going great guns. Has done a solid 80km time trial on the bike, has kept up regular swimming and getting the run sorted out too.  Strategically we will all eat a nice curry the night before and literally blow our competition away come race day!

Last night, cycled home around 6.30pm from Perth city. It amazes me how many ‘thrillseeker’ cyclists are out there at night with no lights on the Kwinana Fwy path.

Matt’s at Austal Ships today as part of his work experience placement in their Fitout area. He has a Deep Sea Fishing trip planned for tomorrow with some friends so hopefully its dhufish for dinner.  He’ll have his Azagai snapper rod handy but not use the wide spool Alvey reel.

Train hard, play hard, eat heartily, sleep well……and don’t eat the ‘yellow’ snow!!

I think there’s something in that for everyone.
