Darlington, Carlton….and lunch!!
I had my core strength session on Friday afternoon. First time doing this. 4minutes of 360deg planking (ie 1min facing up, facing down, 1min facing each side), fitball push ups. A couple of our group swimming at Sorrento on weekend testing out new wetsuits. Passed on that! Did the usual Bikeforce Southern River ride on Sat AM. I dropped back early the ride for one of our riders who was struggling a bit. He ended up turning back early….and I was in no-man’s land trying to catch up the main group but was only a couple of minutes back from them in the end. Gearing up for cyclosportif (team riding) on Sun 20th April at Chidlow. Sunday was the Darlington Half Marathon. I started off with Tim Roach. We sat on just under 4min 15sec /km pace for the first few kms and I have to say it was doing me in a bit. Another workmate caught me just before the halfway point. We are all around the same age (ie 44yo). Tim finished with a flyer of around 1hr 28 or 1hr 29mins. Fantastic run. Paul Covich did around 1hr 40min and I think I came in around 1hr 43min. Not sure yet. Still, didn’t do the granny walk afterwards and felt strong for most of the run. Had a nice BBQ lunch Sunday afternoon and we hosted a few relatives over at our place. Then we sat down for a treat as the mighty Blues (Carlton Football Club) beat Collingwood soundly. Late last night I saw Arsenal go down to Man Utd. I have a bit to do yet with my swimming and running and, with under 3 weeks to go, am running out of time. Lots of good gym sessions, cycling like I mean it and some solid lunchtime runs should do the trick. If there’s any justice, Barry Hall should get suspended for around 8 weeks for a cheap shot in Sydney’s match against Eagles. Nick Stevens should get off though.
Not long to go now. Hope you all heard my me on 94.5FM on Friday morning at the workday 9@9. Who else would order ‘Underneath the Radar’ and ‘Psycho Killer’ as favourite songs!!
