Winter blues
Its going to be a little cold and wet for the next couple of days. Still the Tour de France kicks off on Sat in Brittany. I’ll set up the rollers in front of the TV and settle in for the next 3 weeks.
A local rider (well-known in Perth, nationally and internationally) was recently caught for steroid abuse. I won’t name him but its a real shame. He has to surrender a world title and it just doesn’t help cycling…period!
Dee and I off to Bluff Knoll soon for a bit of hill climbing and camping. We will also head down south to Margz (that’s Margaret River) soon. I have a flu at present so didn’t do the Front Runner training yesterday with Raf Baugh. It’s a session that’s hard enough when fully fit!!
Congrats to several sporting types - Anthony Skorich for some outstanding local soccer success with the Western Knights and, hopefully, Perth Glory. Sarah Van Noort for being one of the first girls selected from Melville City Soccer Club to represent WA in the U15 tournament in Coffs Harbour this coming week.
I have decided that I will embark on Painathlon (www.painathlon.com) and likely have a friend, Todd, for some motivational (and perhaps navigational) help. I’ll get my BFSR (Bikeforce Southern River) ride in tomorrow morning. Our two teams did well in the Cyclosportif (www.cyclosportif.com.au) last Sunday. Our results don’t show. Could be our numbers weren’t showing across the finish line. Anyway, one team finished the 78kms in around 2hrs 10mins and the other around 15mins slower than that. A great event with Graham Brown showing everyone why he is a world gold medal track cyclist.
You sort of expect a patch of not feeling too well this time of year. I expect to be fully fit soon and get back into Central TAFE gym. Fate certainly helped me along in my decision not to do the Perth Marathon this Sunday. Best of luck to those of you embarking on this odyssey. Hang tough!
Jacob’s ladder won’t see Dee or myself this evening but we’ll be back there on Sunday morning. If all is right with the world then Fevola will stay at Carlton Football Club (Australian Football League). I daresay a $3million offer from Sydney to play 4 seasons will tempt him.
Here’s to a drug-free Tour de France. I just marvel at the tenacity and grit of these cyclists. Hope to travel to see a Tour one day.
Let’s finish with part of a quote from Rudyard Kipling to keep you going:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew, to serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you, Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’……If you can fill the unforgiving minute, With sixty second’s worth of distance run, Yours if the Earth and everything that’s in it, And–which is more–you’ll be a Man , my son!
Well it resonates with me
Enjoy all the sport on this weekend
